On an adventure of daring and excitement, John must make an impossible choice. And to do that, he must learn the true price of freedom.

The War Horn eBook J Tobias Buller

The war horn blows for freedom, John's father, Lord Cayson said. And in The War Horn, freedom is just what John finds himself fighting for.

In one fateful day, John's life turns upside down. His parents have disappeared - captured by Lord Gair - and the ransom note demands a payment more costly than anything he could ever have imagined.

The Holy Grail.

In order to free his parents, John must undertake a dangerous quest that will challenge everything he believes. But if he should succeed in finding the Grail, can he really hand it over to a man as evil as Lord Gair? And if he does, will Lord Gair keep his promise and release his parents?

J. Tobias Buller, or Jake, as he frequently goes by, weaves a fascinating tale in The War Horn. This is Jake's debut novel and at times, more noticeably in the beginning, it did read like a first novel. But, as the book went on, the writing definitely improved, the plot thickened, and the story sang.

I found myself reading faster to find out what happened next. And when the climax came, I held my breath. It's a book full of adventure with double crosses and treacheries at every step. Jake does a great job of transplanting you, the reader, into the head of his main character, John, and allowing you to truly bond.

As a writer, Jake shows a lot of promise. I highly enjoyed reading The War Horn and I look forward with great anticipation to any books he writes in future.

The War Horn eBook J Tobias Buller Reviews

*Small Spoiler in first paragraph*

John - the son of Lord Cayson - wakes late in the morning. While a certain man visits his mother and father, he skips morning prayers and meets a welsh friend of his own age. However, when news comes to the castle later and a note is found, John's world seems to be broken in half... and indeed it was cracking - cracking into war. But after a few suspenseful days, John's only hope is to find the Holy Grail and... give it to his enemy. But why would a tyrant, ungodly man like Lord Gair want a holy relic?

I was led inward, I felt myself wanting to scan the pages ahead to find out The War Horn places you in John's mind, every decision he makes, it feels as though you make. I gasped at numerous twists and turns, with each page
what would happen.

This Historical Fiction was well thought out, developed, and clear to understand.

I can see J Tobias Buller, or Jake, weaves his tale incredibly, amazing debut novella. However, this is his first published work and in several parts - especially near the beginning - it shows through. And being self-published there are several grammatical mistakes. The ending, too, while satisfying, lacks some of the 'epicness' it could have.

Still, The War Horn is one of the tidiest self-published novella's I've read, and what experience was lacking in the beginning, was soon made up for.

I cannot explain how much this book engrossed me. I literally was on the edge of my seat. If you are looking for a book to read, to intrigue you and bring you in, or even just to relax after a hard day, then The War Horn
is your book.

I shall wait (not so patiently) for more books by Jake as this has left me (almost) bleeding for more. But first, join John on his journey, whether or not you like Historical Fiction, I'm sure you'll love The War Horn.
The War Horn is an appealing, exciting story about a young man (or boy, however you prefer to think of him) who sets out on a desperate quest to save his family. John, the son of a lord in medieval times, has grown up all his life knowing that he must someday take his father's place. However, the prospect has secretly frightened him all these years. Struggling to follow in his father's honorable example, John struggles to reconcile the behavior society expects of the lords, and the love that he has for the common Welsh people.
Having always had his parents to lean on for support, John is suddenly thrown into turmoil when they are captured by a rival. The ransom demanded for their return is to high for him to pay on his own. In a mad race against time, John sets out with his few friends to find the treasure that will purchase their release, but will his efforts be futile? Will he arrive too late to save his family and his people?

The quality of the writing is excellent, written in a stylish, easy-to-read manner. I enjoyed it so much that I read it in one sitting, if I recall correctly. The ending really surprised me, but I won't say more than that for fear of spoiling anything for you.
I enjoyed the relationship between John and his best friend Colen, who was a rather interesting character. I look forward to reading more books by this author. D

I would recommend this book for anyone who loves historical fiction, adventure, fantasy, or just a good book. Children and adults alike can enjoy this tale!
The story was well though out, researched and written, a very interesting story. looking forward to more books.
The author is our grandson!
The War Horn is a great story and is very well written. I loved it, as did my 13 year old brother. I have never really been into Mideval stories, but The War Horn was great! As for my brother...he couldn't read it fast enough! I have never seen him so invested in a book in his life! This is definitely a must read! Great work by J. Tobias.
Captivating! A great story line involving revenge, kidnapping, and search for holy treasure. As Buller's first published book, I was astounded at his ability to keep me transfixed. This was an enjoyable read, and I look forward to future publications by this author.
